Linux Installation
Installing Linux on a computer is a multi-step process that involves creating bootable media, configuring the system’s BIOS or UEFI firmware, and then installing the operating system on the computer’s hard drive. The specific steps may vary depending on the particular distribution of Linux you are installing, as well as the hardware configuration of the computer.
Here are the general steps for installing Linux on a computer:
- Download the Linux distribution we want to install, this can be either in form of ISO or in some other format
- Create a bootable USB drive, or burn the ISO to a DVD.
- Restart the computer and enter the BIOS or UEFI firmware settings.
- Change the boot order to boot from the USB drive or DVD drive first.
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS or UEFI firmware settings.
- The computer should now boot from the USB drive or DVD and present we with a boot menu.
- Select the option to start the Linux installation process.
- Follow the prompts on the screen to set up our language, keyboard layout, and other system settings.
- Create partitions or use existing partitions on the hard drive and configure them for Linux.
- Provide the necessary details such as username, password, and other information as per the prompts.
- The Linux distribution will now be installed on our computer.
- Once the installation is complete, the computer will reboot and present we with the login screen.
- Log in with the username and password you specified during installation and we’re done!
It’s important to note that the steps can vary depending on the distribution, and sometimes may require more steps or different actions to be taken. It’s always a good idea to consult the distribution’s documentation for installation instructions. Also, we can opt for Live CD/USB method as well, which allows we to try and test the linux distro before installing it.
